Frequently Asked Questions

Dynamic Curriculum

What is taught in a session?
Each session begins with a quick review of the previous class. Next, the teacher will engage the child in a fun and interesting exercise with relatively advanced programming. In our experience, students love creating and programming from day one. The goal is to give them independence in working with programs and to give them the experience of seeing exciting results from the very beginning. Our teachers are expert at drawing students into active learning. As a student progresses, the topics become more advanced and focused on developing and working with applications and projects.
How many hours per week should I learn?
Two hours per week are more beneficial than one hour per week, simply because there is more momentum and memory retention. However, one hour per week is also sufficient; just somewhat slower. It depends on your interests.
What languages can I learn from you?
Whatever you need! Check with us. We teach popular languages including Python, Java and Scratch, as well as gaming.
Which language will you start with?
We start with Scratch. In our experience, children love this language because they dont have to type anything. In Scratch, students work with visual blocks that can be dragged and arranged as needed. Of course, our main goal is to teach them logic and developing algorithms, which they can then apply to any language. This is important because languages change over time. A strong foundation in algorithms and logic gives students the flexibility and confidence to program in any language.
Why teach coding to children?
It is fact that programming is an essential skill in today's fast paced environment. It is not an option. Teaching children this skill teaches them problem solving, systematic and logical thinking, and builds in them a dedication to lifelong learning. Those who know programming have guaranteed career opportunities waiting for them. We at Coding Young strongly believe that teaching programming is as important as teaching children to read and write!
What is a proper age to start learning coding?
We recommend age 8. Students should have access to a computer/internet.
Can I accelerate learning by taking more classes?.
You are welcome to accelerate your learning through fast track classes or holiday boot camps. Each extra class (over 1 class per week) will be charged at $39 per class.

Student Progress

What can students do outside of class?
Students will be assigned homework. They are encouraged to work on it, but we understand that this may not be always possible. It is useful to try things out in between classes, even if just for a few minutes every other day so that you come prepared for the next lesson. This way you save time and unnecessary repetition.
How will progress be assessed?
Students will receive emails after every class about material that was covered. At the end of each course, the students will receive a report on the capstone projects they worked on.
How do I keep track of what I have learned?
Our teachers will send emails summarizing where the student is. The student will save any applications and projects developed, and these will be available in their workspace.

Plans & Payments

How do I cancel my monthly plan?
You can cancel anytime without additional charge and a prorated refund will be issued for incomplete classes.
What happens if the instructor cancels?
This is rare, but if it happens, you can either re-schedule the class or make an appointment with another instructor (if available).
Do you accept cash or checks?
No. We accept only major credit or debit cards.
When and how frequently will I be charged?
You will be charged for the month on the day you subscribe. You will be charged that same day every month for as long as you are in the program.
